Investigator Studies Program (MISP): CMV Vaccine
Effective March 2019, the CMV Vaccine Investigator Studies Program (MISP) Committee will accept proposals within our current areas of interest (AOI) up to May 17, 2019. This is a competitive process that will be conducted on June 17, 2019 by the CMV Vaccine MISP. Decisions will be made on the basis of scientific merit and strategic fit within the AOI. Please review the critical activities and abide by the timelines as outlined below.

The following areas are of interest to Investigator Studies Program Committee:

Research that
  • Description of the burden caused by congenital CMV infection and congenital CMV disease in CMV seronegative and seropositive populations
  • Characterization of the specific patterns of congenital CMV infection -associated hearing and/or visual impairment, cognitive impairment (i.e., delayed versus immediate—time to impairment, static versus progressive, functional impairments, quality of life implications)
  • Exploration of asymptomatic shedding of CMV (qualitative and quantitative) as a marker for maternal-fetal CMV transmission in seronegative AND seropositive mothers
  • Refinement of laboratory methods to identify primary CMV infection or assessment of CMV re-activation vs. re-infection among women latently infected with CMV during pregnancy
  • Assess the role of natural immunity to CMV (among those latently infected) in the prevention of re-infection, congenital CMV infection, and congenital CMV disease
  • Explore the relationship between CMV genetics and pathogenicity
  • Day-care center study of infant/toddler/mother - Prospective cohort demonstrating infection of mother with strain that the toddler carries
  • Methods to elucidate immunologic protection at the maternal / fetal placenta interface

Please complete a full protocol and detailed budget via Visiontracker, the Company's on-line study management system (in US) or your MSD country representative (outside US). The proposals will be collectively reviewed and selected by the CMV Vaccine MISP Committee.
